“The Way Out Recovery Hour” has returned to KHTS Radio Mondays at noon, with Host Bob Sharits and a variety of guests talking about important topics related to the world of recovery from addiction and substance abuse.
“I’m extremely excited about that, the opportunity to bring in various organizations and persons who have anything to do with recovery or helping others,” said Sharits, program director at The Way Out Recovery SCV. “We have now a weekly opportunity to bring people in and to have some really incredible shows in store for you.”
The public is invited to send Sharits suggestions for topics and guests during future shows by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
“I’m looking for ideas for the rest of the year and going into next year for these weekly shows,” he said. “So I’m happy to put out there any information that people in recovery or thinking about recovery want or need.”
One critical message that The Way Out Recovery SCV aims to bring awareness to through the show is the firm belief that asking for help is the first step.
“Asking for help in any issue, but particularly in substance abuse and mental health, is oftentimes the most difficult thing we can do,” Sharits said. “We sit back maybe knowing that we have a problem, maybe knowing that our loved ones have a problem, … hoping it will get better and really afraid to say something, afraid to ask for help.”
However, Sharits believes that asking for help with these issues for yourself or a loved one is “the greatest step that you can take” and “the most powerful thing that you can do.”
Sharits himself has been sober for 13 years, and shared his own experience with the world of recovery as an encouragement to those who may be stuck in their hesitation about getting necessary help.
“I’ve gone from this little tiny world where all I could see was the drugs in front of me and how to get more, … and in the last 13 years being in the recovery process, starting with asking for help, this world has just opened up tremendously to me,” Sharits said. “I get to see this beautiful world full of opportunities sitting in front of me and I am amazed.”
Sharits concluded, “If you are struggling or a loved one is struggling and you need some help, please reach out to us. We are available all the time. Our phone number is 661-296-4444. You can call me on my cell phone as well. That’s 661-383-6550.”
