United Community Action Network - The Way Out Recovery SCV - January 21, 2019

On this week’s episode of The Recovery Hour, a live weekly hour long radio show I host on KHTS FM 98.1 & AM 1220, I invited Sammy Edwards and Aaron Valencia to join me.

Both men also work with teenagers and help them get on track, and get out of bad lifestyles that they may be in.

Sammy works for an organization called, UCAN, and it stands for United Community Action Network. The serve the adolescent community with programs for anger management, drug and alcohol intervention and prevention.

Aaron runs a program called The Lost Angels Children's Project, which is an afterschool program in Lancaster for children in foster care.

All three of us started out on a rough road, in and out of juvenile detention with addictions to drugs and alcohol. We all had people help us along the way to recovery and we wanted to help kids who are in similar situations.

It’s about teaching kids how to be better, how to believe in themselves and building a community around them that can help guide them into better choices. It’s also about stability. When it comes to sobriety or overcoming a challenging childhood, kids want a stable place where they can go and know that we will be there for them, and with them.

Asking for help is the first step in gaining that freedom in recovery, and there are many resources to turn to. Talk to us, or someone in your life about what is going on. Share your issues with addiction or mental health.
